GTA VI Grassrivers

GTA VI Grassrivers Location Confirmed

Forget the neon lights and rooftop bars for a minute. Not everywhere in Leonida is about looking good. Some of it is about surviving.

“The untamable jewel of Leonida’s crown. You never know what lies beneath the surface of this primordial expanse.”

That’s Rockstar own warning label for Grassrivers, and it’s not exaggerating. This is the region where Vice City polish disappears completely, replaced by mangroves, murky water, and the kind of silence that makes you nervous rather than relaxed. Gators are the headline attraction here. They’re also, apparently, not even the scariest thing hiding in these wetlands.

What is Grassrivers?

GTA VI Grassrivers

Grassrivers is Leonida version of the Everglades a sprawling stretch of flooded grasslands, mangroves, and rivers that cuts straight through the southern part of the state. It sits close enough to Vice City that you could drive there without much trouble, but the second you roll into this region, it feels like an entirely different world. No skyline. No nightlife. Just water, wildlife, and the occasional sound of an airboat engine cutting through the quiet.

The name itself likely nods to Marjory Stoneman Douglas’ 1947 book, The Everglades: River of Grass a small but meaningful detail that shows Rockstar not just copying Florida’s geography, they’re pulling from its actual cultural history too.

Life in the Wetlands

GTA VI Grassrivers

Grassrivers isn’t built for fast cars and street racing. This is airboat country. Trailer footage already shows one cutting across the water, and honestly, that’s probably going to be the preferred way to get around once you’re deep enough into the swamp regular vehicles will still work, but they’re not exactly built for this terrain.

The region blends open grasslands, waterways, and small pockets of residential and agricultural land, giving it a slower, rougher rhythm compared to the rest of Leonida. Expect dirt roads over highways, hunting over shopping, and a community that’s built its whole life around this land rather than just passing through it.

Gators, and Worse

GTA VI Grassrivers

Alligators are the obvious danger here trailer footage already shows a flamboyance of flamingos sharing space with multiple gators, and at one point, a pickup truck hauling a few captured gators in the back, which raises some pretty obvious questions about the legality of that particular hunting trip.

But Rockstar own description makes it clear the gators aren’t actually the main threat. “Far deadlier predators and weirder discoveries among the mangroves” that’s a direct hint that the real danger in Grassrivers walks on two legs, not four. If GTA V Blaine County taught us anything, it’s that backwoods regions in Rockstar games tend to be filled with exactly the kind of unpredictable, dangerous characters you don’t want to run into alone.

A Region With History

GTA VI Grassrivers

It was first hinted at all the way back in GTA IV, through a Vice City travel ad on a fictional website, and later through a story about someone smuggling a crocodile out of Vice City’s wetland border into Liberty City.

The region got its actual name in the September 2022 GTA VI leaks, appearing on an educational sign titled “Energy in the Grassrivers” that explained the local ecosystem. That leak turned out to be legitimate, and Grassrivers officially debuted in the first GTA VI trailer, first through that airboat shot, then immediately after with the flamingos and gators.

Interestingly, this swampland almost showed up decades earlier. Leftover files from the PlayStation 2 version of GTA: Vice City show that a version of the Everglades was originally planned for that game, intended to sit west of Escobar International Airport. It got cut, but the idea clearly stuck around long enough to finally make it into GTA VI, decades later.

Conclusion

Grassrivers is proof that Leonida isn’t just Vice City wearing different outfits. It’s a real change of pace quieter, wilder, and in its own way, more unsettling than anything happening in the city. No neon, no crowds, just water, gators, and whatever else Rockstar decided to hide out here waiting for players brave enough to go looking. If Vice City is where Leonida shows off, Grassrivers is where it shows its teeth.

Grassrivers is inspired by the Everglades in Florida, with the name likely referencing Marjory Stoneman Douglas’ famous 1947 book about the region.

It sits in the southern part of Leonida, running through Vice-Dale County and Mariana County, positioned north of Vice City.

Expect swampland, mangroves, alligators, airboats, and a rural, backwoods atmosphere similar to Blaine County from GTA V along with some dangerous human characters hinted at in official descriptions.
