GTA 6 Has Sold Nearly 8 Million Copies Before Launch, Generating an Estimated $751 Million
Grand Theft Auto 6 is still more than two weeks away from its official release, but the game is already generating some massive numbers. According to new estimates from market intelligence firm Sensor Tower, GTA 6 has reportedly sold nearly 8 million copies through pre-orders, bringing in an estimated $751 million in revenue before players can even get their hands on it.
With Rockstar Games preparing for the November 19 launch, these figures give us an idea of just how much demand has built up around its upcoming open-world game.
PS5 Is Leading GTA 6 Pre-Order Sales

One of the more interesting details from Sensor Tower’s latest report is the difference between PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S sales.
According to the estimates, GTA 6 has sold approximately 5.74 million copies on PS5, compared to 1.97 million copies on Xbox Series X|S.
That puts PlayStation at around 74% of total pre-orders, while Xbox accounts for the remaining 26%.
The revenue split follows a similar pattern. PS5 sales have reportedly generated around $559 million, while Xbox sales have brought in approximately $192 million.

| Platform | Estimated Copies Sold | Sales Share | Estimated Revenue |
|---|---|---|---|
| PS5 | 5.74 million | 74% | $559 million |
| Xbox Series X|S | 1.97 million | 26% | $192 million |
| Total | 7.71 million | 100% | $751 million |
The gap between the two platforms isn’t particularly surprising, considering PlayStation currently has a larger console player base than Xbox.
Still, these numbers show just how important GTA 6 could be for both console manufacturers. Even before launch, the game is generating hundreds of millions of dollars in estimated revenue.

GTA 6 Could Reach 25 Million Pre-Orders Before Launch
With November 19 getting closer, GTA 6 still has some time to build on its current numbers.
These are projections, not confirmed sales figures, but they give us an idea of how much bigger the numbers could become before release.
The interest surrounding GTA 6 is also showing up in other industry data. According to Circana, the game currently has a 29% purchase intent among US console and PC gamers.
In simple terms, nearly one in three gamers surveyed in the US said they plan to buy GTA 6. Circana reportedly described this as the highest purchase intent it has ever measured for a game.

GTA 6 Is Already Among 2026 Biggest Games
GTA 6 hasn’t even launched yet, but its estimated pre-order numbers are already putting it in the conversation with some of this year’s biggest releases.
Circana’s latest year-to-date sales rankings include games such as NBA 2K27, Resident Evil Requiem, 007 First Light, MLB: The Show 26, Crimson Desert, and Call of Duty: Black Ops II.
While the chart doesn’t provide total unit sales for every game, Resident Evil Requiem has reportedly sold around 8.5 million copies. That puts GTA 6’s estimated 7.71 million pre-orders in an interesting position, especially considering the game hasn’t officially arrived yet.
However, these figures come from different market-tracking sources, so they shouldn’t be treated as a definitive sales ranking.

GTA 6 Launch Is Getting Closer
GTA 6 is scheduled to release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
With pre-loading expected to begin on November 12, players will have the opportunity to download the massive game before launch day. The reported file size is around 212GB, so clearing some storage space ahead of time might be a good idea.
For now, Rockstar hasn’t shared official pre-order numbers, but Sensor Tower’s estimates suggest that GTA 6 is already heading toward a massive commercial launch.
If these figures are anywhere close to the actual numbers, Rockstar’s next Grand Theft Auto game could become one of the biggest releases of 2026 before players even step into Vice City.
